What does it take to bring a new GM product to market?

The White House issued an executive order in 2015 to review and revise the biotech approval system that pretty much everyone agrees is broken. In the United States, GMOs have been regulated under the Coordinated Framework for the Regulation of Biotechnology, issued in 1986 and updated in 1992. As the White House noted, that “update affirmed that Federal oversight should focus on the characteristics of the product and the environment into which it is being introduced, rather than the process by which the product is created.”  Read the article.
